Who is Theophilus?
Luke 2:3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus…
Luke wrote both the Gospel of Luke and the book of the Acts of the Apostles to someone named Theophilus. While some theologians believe that indeed this was an actual person, others seem to think that it represents a “class of people.”
Theophilus means lover of God or friend of God. So, I think that though the name may refer to an individual it also more than likely refers to all those who love God!
Before we can become a true lover of God we need to understand and receive God’s love to us! 1 John 4:19 We love him, because he first loved us. Romans 4:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us!
Indeed, God loves us! His love is radical and unconditional! 1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God…
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life…
1 John 4:9-10 declares, In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
We can become lovers of God ONLY when we receive His love. SO, today let me encourage you to study and meditate on these scriptures until the love of God comes alive in your heart and then allow the Holy Spirit to help you reciprocate that LOVE back to God!
Blessed and Highly Favored,
Pastor Russ
